A white dove collides - very gently - with a clarinet. Music meets language meets performance. Free improvisation plays with concept and notation. Olivier Messiaen's ‘Abyss of the Birds’ meets Rachel Carson's ‘Silent Spring’. Bird calls that have long been inaudible are brought back to life in a shared dream.
For five days, Robert Beck Robert Beck (clarinet) and I explored the different ways in which music, text and action can influence each other and presented the results of our residency (thanks to the Gesellschaft für neue Musik Ruhr) at the Essen Neue Musik Zentrale. We showed a further development of the project at the Kunsthaus Essen, and will be performing the latest version at the Black Box in Münster on June 22.
